Coming soon: DRAWN TOGETHER with Dan Santat (Disney-Hyperion, Summer 2018)
I'm excited to share that for my second book, I'll be collaborating with Caldecott-winner and #1 NYT bestselling author/illustrator Dan Santat (the book will again be edited by the brilliant Rotem Moscovich). Drawn Together is about a boy and his grandfather who discover a mutual love of art and use it to overcome a language barrier. I shouldn't say too much more, but in the meantime, here are a few beautiful process sketches that Dan has shared so far:
Coming soon: THE CREATIVITY PROJECT edited by Colby Sharp (Little Brown, 2018)
I am thrilled to be invited by literary/education dynamo Colby Sharp to be a contributor to The Creativity Project, which is described in Publisher's Weekly as:
"The Creativity Project will feature contributions by 43 children's book authors and illustrators representing a variety of genres and from diverse background, including Sherman Alexie, Kate DiCamillo, Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler), Sophie Blackall, R.J. Palacio, and Jewell Parker Rhodes. Each contributor initially was asked to provide two writing prompts, which were then given to another contributor to help them get started after selecting one of the two prompts."
Scheduled to be published in 2018, take a second to check out this astonishing list of contributors. Then, after you pick your jaw up off the ground, add the book to your wish list.
LET ME FINISH! with Isabel Roxas (Disney-Hyperion, 2016)
*** An NPR Best Book of 2016 ***
"Such a fun romp! A boy with big glasses is trying his best to find a quiet spot to read, but no luck! Creatures of all sorts keep interrupting to tell him why his book is so great. As you race to the end trying to avoid spoilers, the book in his hands becomes the book in your hands. I can't wait to see what's next from first-time author Minh Lê!" -NPR's Book Concierge (Justine Kenin)
"Much in the vein of Jon Klassen's I Want My Hat Back, this title leaves readers to assume an unexpected ending for the boy. VERDICT A fun storytime selection for audiences with a good sense of humor." -School Library Journal
"Call it a preemptive strike: Le schools children who are new to reading (and probably more likely to be the spoiler than the spoilee) on the evils of the spoiler... Roxas's mixed-media illustrations take the boy--and readers--on an imaginative journey." -The Horn Book
"One of the best of the year." -Betsy Bird, SLJ
"Pleasingly silly..." -Kirkus
"Here's a spoiler alert of our own: there's a surprise in this engaging tale that you definitely won't want to miss! -Barnes & Noble's "June's Best New Picture Books"
"I can't recommend Let Me Finish! highly enough." -Alex Reif, Laughing Place
"With every reading Let Me Finish! becomes more marvelous. It conveys the love of books and reading with excellence delivering the ultimate surprise. It makes for a great read aloud. I urge you to share it repeatedly." -Margie Myers-Culver, Librarian's Quest
Let Me Finish! is our picture book (my debut) about how the simple act of finding a quiet place to finish a book can unexpectedly turn into a daunting quest. Desperate for solitude, the boy in this story is continually interrupted by characters who just can't resist sharing their love for the same book he's reading. I couldn't be more excited or thankful that Isabel Roxas agreed to bring the story to life with her wonderful illustrations and that Rotem Moscovich and Disney-Hyperion were willing to take a chance on this debut author (and expertly guide me through every stage of the process).
Let Me Finish! is available now wherever books are sold and you can buy them online at: Indiebound, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.
